Abstract

The paper deals with the children’s literature discourse, which is considered to be one of the factors of forming the system of social values. The research material represents the texts of children’s literature translated into Russian as well as original texts of children’s literature in English. The paper discusses the debatable question if the children’s literature should be regarded
as a genre of mass literature, and explores the functioning of the translated children’s literature in the semiosphere of Russian culture. One of the aims of the discourse in question is the socialization of the discourse participants in one or more than one semiospheres. The contemporary communicative space demands a young reader to be included into the multicultural context, and this can be done helped by the translators of the children’s literature. The paper considers some components of children’s literature discourse (participants, aims, values, strategies, precedent texts). The paper summarizes that the evolution of social ethic and language standards is not only reflected in the children’s literary texts. Moreover, these texts develop many trends in the development and consolidation of the future cultural standards.
